ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Building Owners and Managers Association
BOMA International: The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA)
International is a federation of 93 BOMA U.S. associations, BOMA Canada and its 11
regional associations and 13 BOMA international affiliates. Founded in 1907, BOMA
represents the owners and managers of all commercial property types. Its mission is to
advance the interests of the entire commercial real estate industry through advocacy,
education, research, standards and information.
BOMA International is a primary source of information on building management and
operations, development, leasing, building operating costs, energy consumption
patterns, local and national building codes, legislation, occupancy statistics,
technological developments and other industry trends.
BOMA Canada: On behalf of its eleven regional association members BOMA Canada
addresses issues of national concern, promoting excellence in the industry through
information, education, advocacy and recognition.
Members of BOMA locals are building owners, managers, developers, facility managers,
asset managers, leasing agents, brokers, and the product and service providers who
collectively represent more than 1.9 billion square feet of commercial real estate in
Canada.
BOMA Canada:
Monitors and lobbies pertinent legislative, regulatory, and codes and standards
issues including air quality, building codes, health and life‐safety, tax legislation, and
utilities deregulation.
Holds an annual trade show and convention (BOMEX) with educational seminars on
office marketing and leasing as well as issues of critical importance to the industry.
Presents annually The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY), Earth Awards and
Pinnacle Awards raising the visibility of the industry.
Manages BOMA BEST®, North America’s largest environmental assessment and
certification program for existing buildings.
