THE BOMA VOICE
Building Owners and Managers Association
The BOMA Voice
Goal: Advocate for the interests of our members as they may be affected by
issues which impact the commercial buildings industry.
BOMA Lobbying Efforts
Professional representation of member interests
BOMA Manitoba plays a key role in advancing advocacy issues on behalf of its members.
The BOMA Board of Directors and its Advocacy & Government Affairs Committee are
committed to protecting and advancing member interests on important policy issues,
such as:
Energy pricing and supply Property taxes
Building codes and standards Building and occupancy permits
Environmental regulations Security of people and property
Equipment regulations Infrastructure spending
Development charges
Governments have made it clear that they prefer organizations to address issues
through a single representative voice. BOMA believes in being proactive on issues
that affect its membership, and working closely with federal, provincial, and municipal
representatives to ensure that all legislative alternatives are fully explored.
BOMA is pleased to work alongside other industry groups on advocacy issues; these
parties include (but are not limited to) the Winnipeg Construction Association, Building
Energy Management Manitoba (BEMM), the Manitoba Hotel Association, and the
Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce.
BOMA Research
Measuring impact and affecting change
Member Surveys:
Through its regular surveys of Principal members, BOMA solicits opinions from its
members on advocacy topics, refines them into succinct position papers and presents
them to government. The surveys encourage members to provide information and
feedback on a number of issues, including building permits (challenges, permit values,
etc.), property taxes, security issues, and environmental standards, to name a few.
