What is your current job title?

Financial Security Advisor and Investment Representative.

What inspired you to join BYP?

I joined BYP because our generation has the opportunity to be so impactful! We have been mentored by amazing entrepreneurs and industry leaders, yet we have been given the grace and foundation to challenge the status quo. BYP members are passionate about positively impacting their respective industries, and that is exciting and inspiring for me to be a part of!

How has being part of BYP helped your career?

Being a part of BOMA for as long as I have been, I am lucky to have built great friendships and relationships with many members, and being a part of BYP specifically has allowed me to meet the next generation of decision makers. They are the up-and-comers. They are the individuals chosen to represent their companies. Building generational relationships through BOMA and BYP has opened the door for meetings outside of networking events to discuss business succession plans, shareholder agreement funding, and key person protection.

What’s been the most valuable BYP event or experience for you?

I have always enjoyed the luncheons! They are a great opportunity to welcome new members and strengthen my existing relationships. The curling bonspiel may be my new favourite or at least a close second to the poker tournament! BYP specific—I would have to say my favourite was Activate!

How has BYP helped you connect with other professionals in the industry?

Surrounding myself with peers who are brimming with bright ideas and a passion for growth has encouraged collaborations that have led to career-defining initiatives and cases. Whether it be financial literacy initiatives, cross-industry education events, or financial product offerings, the association which I grew up in has contributed greatly to my success.

What skills or insights have you gained through BYP that you bring back to your workplace?

As I navigate(d) changes in my business, such as succession planning, purchasing/ acquiring business, real estate & property management—I have been able to lean on my BYP network to give me insights and direction. The reality is that most people walking through the BOMA event doors are not just here to sell a service or buy a service. In fact, they have a story to tell—and I want to hear it! Whether it be about a hiring disaster, a successful snow clearing, or a fantastic employee training initiative—these are the stories that inspire me to be curious in such a way that it can save time and money and create efficiency.

Why do you think programs like BYP are important for employers to support?

Signing up or encouraging your employee to partake instills trust and appreciation, encourages autonomy, and boosts their confidence. It can create great mentorship opportunities and encourage leadership. Your young professionals want to be inspired, and they want to make a difference. These networking opportunities will allow them to bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to your firm! Relationships are not built over the phone. They are built with a handshake and a warm smile.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining BYP?

Do it. But really do it. Show up ready to meet new people. Know your company and represent them well. Know who you are and why you are there (not because your boss told you to).

What do you want to gain? Mentorship, job opportunities, industry insights, and leadership experience? Be open and curious. You’ll meet people from different backgrounds and roles. Be open to learning from others,
even those outside your immediate field. Some of the best ideas and opportunities come from unexpected places.

Be patient. Networking is a long-term investment. And consistency is key. Keep doing it!

What’s been your favorite part of being involved with BOMA through BYP?

Knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and networking. As Charlie Munger once said, “The best thing a human being can do is to help another human being know more.”
