…if something isn’t clear – ask! You can never ask enough questions. Also, learning is endless – you can never learn enough.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN THE INDUSTRY?
Lots of years – 25 years. Back 30 years ago, I was the accounting manager at a Winnipeg based fast food franchise and that job morphed into representing the franchise as a tenant and sublandlord to the franchisees. From there I became a Property Manager with a couple different property management companies.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES?
I am the Regional Lead of the Real Estate Management Services (REMS) in Manitoba. My responsibilities are client management, financial management, staff oversight, hiring, training, and business development.
WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS YOU SEE IN BECOMING A MEMBER?
The networking is very beneficial and because BOMA Manitoba has monthly lunches and other events throughout the year, the contact with familiar faces is consistent and there is always a new person to meet. I have developed relationships with many people/companies. Also, the exposure to a variety of subjects through the lunches and industry breakfasts is very important.
WHAT ROLES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH IN BOMA?
2023 Awards Committee Judge, BOMEX Winnipeg (2014) Education committee, on the panel of Manage section of the Design/Build/Manage series in 2023.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A MEMBER?
At a previous job, I was offered the membership and now with Colliers, I was also one of the designated members but couldn’t imagine not having the membership. I look forward to the monthly lunches and attend other events when possible.
DO YOU THINK BECOMING A MEMBER HAS HELPED YOU IN YOUR CAREER?
Yes, it has helped. The contacts you make are invaluable.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW BOMA MEMBERS WHO AREN’T AS ACTIVE?
Get out to the events and meet people. You never know when you will meet someone that can help you out.
WHAT’S A VALUABLE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D GIVE YOUR PAST SELF?
A valuable piece of advice I would give my past self is ask questions – if something isn’t clear – ask! You can never ask enough questions. Also, learning is endless – you can never learn enough.
