Step outside of your comfort zone. Some of the greatest opportunities often start with an uncomfortable beginning.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN THE INDUSTRY?
I have been in the commercial roofing industry for just over 5 years now. That is a long story, but here’s a short summary: I was brought over by the MJ Roofing owner after having dealt with him several times at my previous job. Hand-picked, so to speak.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES?
We all wear a few different hats around here, but as an Account Representative, my main responsibilities are to ensure my customers’ roofs are well taken care of. That includes ensuring that our service standards are met, and the clients have enough information to make informed decisions.
WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS YOU SEE IN BECOMING A MEMBER?
Having access to the vast network of both Principal and Allied members is a great benefit. I have gained customers, sub-contractors and friends from the group.
WHAT ROLES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN WITH BOMA?
I’m currently on the BOMA Golf Committee, and this will be my fourth year on the committee! I’m also an active member of BYP (Building Young Professionals).
WHY DID YOU BECOME A MEMBER?
Because all of the cool kids are members! I became a member because I didn’t want to miss out on any of the fun.
DO YOU THINK BECOMING A MEMBER HAS HELPED YOU IN YOUR CAREER?
Absolutely! Being a member has not only opened doors to new relationships but has also expanded my industry knowledge. This translates directly into providing better service for our customers and has played a crucial role in my professional development.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW BOMA MEMBERS WHO AREN’T AS ACTIVE?
Take advantage of your membership! There is a lot more to BOMA than just the luncheons! Also, make sure to register early before the golf tournament is full.
WHAT’S A VALUABLE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D GIVE YOUR PAST SELF?
Step outside of your comfort zone. Some of the greatest opportunities often start with an uncomfortable beginning. Don’t be afraid to fail.
