January Building Operators and Engineers Group Breakfast

Date: Tuesday, January 24th

Time: 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Location: Delta Winnipeg, 350 St Mary Avenue

Topic: VRF Systems

Presenter: Corey Nation, EH Price

New technologies and approaches to buildings are coming from every direction. The latest technology has come from Eastern Asia, variable refrigerant flow, VRF, systems.  Similar in the way heat pump systems have grown popular in Manitoba by exchanging energy through water from one space to another, VRF systems are doing the same using refrigerant.  The National Energy Code for Buildings is pushing alternative technologies to the fore front and VRF is leading the way.  These systems offer smaller equipment footprint, smaller pipe, smaller ductwork, and the ability to transfer energy freely from one space to another.

We will discuss the fundamentals of VRF systems and how they differ from our traditional systems.  We will examine the effects and benefits VRF has to the energy consumption of a building.  We will show the flexibility of the system and how it can be used in retrofit or new applications.
